Red Guitars Hallam Lewis, John Rowley, Lou Duffy-Howard, and Matt Higgins are ready to tour under their current name, Undead Guitars.
Originally visionary Indie band Red Guitars formed in 1982. The band’s first single, ‘Good Technology’, topped the Independent Charts and they had further consecutive No.1 Indie hits with classic cuts ‘Marimba Jive’, ‘Steeltown’, and ‘Be With Me’.
Forging their own sound with a unique mix of infectious rock and African rhythms, the band quickly earned support from the tastemaker titles of the time including cult 1980s Channel 4 music TV show The Tube and the BBC’s Whistle Test, through to a number of memorable sessions for BBC Radio legend John Peel. The band was notably enjoyed by thousands when supporting The Smiths on their breakthrough tour in 1984. Releasing their seminal debut album ‘Slow To Fade’ that same year.
Following the departure of Jerry Kidd, Red Guitars released their second album, ‘Tales of the Expected’ on Virgin Records with Robert Holmes on vocals, again touring the UK and Europe before disbanding in 1986.
Fast forward to 2022, the band reformed for a UK reunion tour, touring again in 2023 to promote the self-released limited edition red vinyl ‘Good Technology’ anniversary remix and new video. After parting with Kidd again in 2024 Undead Guitars are now Hallam Lewis lead vocals and guitars, John Rowley guitar, Lou Duffy-Howard bass and backing vocals, Matt Higgins drums and percussion.
Since then, the band have released four new singles on Scratch Plate records. Most recently, ’Beyond the Blues’ in January 2026 followed last year’s single ‘Blazing Zombies’ and the band’s 2024 single ’Ho Ho Hum’, released to raise funds for refugee charities Breaking Barriers and The Refugee Council.
This year the four founding Red Guitars members continue work on a new album with Hallam on lead vocals.
